It was always obvious from the start when Audi launched the A1 that they intended to go the MINI route and offer as many options and limited editions as they could muster. So the launch of the Audi A1 Black Edition and A1 Contrast Edition is not exactly a shock. And nor is a new 143PS 2.0-litre TDI engine option.
Audi’s new Ultra range may look like the firm’s standard line-up of saloons, coupes and estates, but don’t be fooled. The German firm has performed some key tweaks to make its new 2014 A4, A5 and A6 Ultra models even more efficient. The new core range of ‘Ultra’ frugal Audis follows on from the firm’s high-efficiency debut model, the A3 1.6 TDI Ultra, which went on sale in autumn last year.
No new models at Geneva for Land Rover, but there is the new Range Rover Evoque Black Design Pack, Evoque 9-speed auto ‘box and electric Land Rover Defender. But despite no new models from Land Rover or Range Rover, there are new options and new technology on offer. Probably of most interest is the new 9-speed auto ‘box for the Range Rover Evoque – replacing the current 6-speed auto box which should offer a lot more relaxing – and economical cruise – on motorways as well as make change more seamless.
